WINTER STORM UPDATES

We are now looking at precipitation starting around midnight on Saturday, and continuing through to Monday. What is uncertain is the timing of the shift from snow to ice, then back to snow – including when that lovely precipitation sandwich will occur and what the impacts will be.

Either way, we are expecting significant snowfall in the hours leading up to any changes in whatever form the water chooses to take, and that is how we are preparing.
Now for some friendly reminders and tips –

In the event that the state declares a level 2 state of emergency and implements driving restrictions – PLEASE HONOR THIS – emergency services need to prioritize clearing roads, not pulling vehicles out of ditches and snow drifts. Please remember this and prepare in adva
nce. Stay home. Try to relax. Read a book. Sip some hot chocolate for us! ☕️📖
Move your vehicles off roadways to allow safe, easy access for plows. 🚙🚗
Take some time now to familiarize yourself with your property – locate the water shut-off valves inside your garage, under your house, etc. In the event of a deep freeze and pipes bursting, it may take some time for crews to arrive and shut off your water. Locating your valves can save you time and money. Please remember that tampering with your meter pit is a fine-bearing offense. Should you have a water-related emergency, contact Town Hall or the Police Department’s non-emergency line. Leave a message if needed – staff will be checking messages throughout the storm.
Make sure you are prepared for a lengthy power outage. We remember the ice storm of 1994 – do you? If not, trust us, it was pretty, but it wasn’t fun. And we didn’t rely on the technology then that we do now! Charge all your devices, have backup plans and batteries, choose flashlights over candles, and NEVER run a generator inside your home. The attached infographics provide resources to support your emergency planning.

Bring all of your pets inside. No questions. No arguments. We will be in single-digit weather for over a week following this storm.

And last but never least, check on your friends and neighbors and try to help where you can. 💙💙💙

We will provide updates as we can throughout the storm, so stay tuned! In the meantime, we’ve made infographics!
